Fire Safety Prosecutions



The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 is enforced by the local authority within each county.  Under this legislation, there are a number of enforcement actions that can be undertaken by the local authority, including a Notice of Fire Safety Deficiencies, Enforcement Notices and Prohibition Notices.  In instances where the risk of harm from fire is deemed unacceptably high and/or the responsible person is unwilling to comply with the enforcing authority, court action may be deemed necessary.

Should the enforcing authority decide court action is necessary, there are no maximum penalties.  Penalties include fines, community service and, in extreme circumstances, prison sentences.
