7.5.17 New Forest thatched house destroyed by fire

A fire has gutted a large thatched house in the New Forest.

The blaze broke out in the rural detached property in The Common, Damerham.

It took more than 80 fire fighters from Hampshire and Dorset Fire and Rescue Services more than eight hours to bring it under control.

Fire crews remained at the scene dealing with hot spots. Hampshire Fire and Rescue said the no-one was hurt in the blaze.

A special team from South Central Ambulance Service were also sent to the scene to provide medical support as it was unsafe for a regular ambulance to attend.

No one was injured but two dogs were rescued from the first floor of the property and reunited with their owner.

Investigations show it would have been caused by sparks in the chimney that spread to the roof.
