21.12.16 Crews tackle fire in Portsmouth dry cleaners


The fire has destroyed the dry cleaners in Portsmouth.

Crews were called to Albert Road, Southsea after the fire broke out in the shop shortly before 06:00.

About 40 fire fighters in 10 fire engines with an aerial ladder were used to bring the fire in the terraced building under control.

The road remained closed both ways between Victoria Road South and Fawcett Road. Motorists were advised to avoid the area.

A fire service spokeswoman said the fire was out but crews were expected to remain at the scene damping down.

The fire service said no-one was in the property.

An investigation is under way to establish how the fire started.
