22.11.16 Carmarthenshire, Burry Port chip shop fire affects rail services.

Fire fighters tackled fire at fish and chip shop in Carmarthenshire.

Six fire engines were called to the shop on Station Road, Burry Port, just after 20:00 on Tuesday 22.11.16.

Fire crews dealt with the blaze, which led to people living nearby being evacuated, including staff and customers at the nearby Cornish Arms.  The blaze has also affected neighbouring properties.  The shop was said to be well alight.

Trains on the nearby railway line had to be halted for a time because of smoke from the fire.

The four crews were called to Joseph's Fish & Chips on Station Road.  Crews from Llanelli, Kidwelly and Gorseinon attended the incident, as well as the aerial appliance based at Sketty in Swansea West.  Western Power and gas utility companies also attended the incident to make the area safe.

Fire crews from Llanelli remained at the venue, damping down the site.

The fire affected the ground floor, first floor and roof space of the property.

An investigation into what caused the fire is due to begin.

There are no reports of injuries.
