Fire fighters spend all night at scene of giant Kingstanding pub blaze.

Fire officers said that all persons were 'not yet accounted for' after the blaze broke out at the former Pudding & Pint pub.

More than 30 fire fighters battled the severe blaze at the derelict pub in Kingstanding on Tuesday evening of 17.5.16.

Four crews from Perry Barr, Erdington and Aston were initially sent to the scene at the pub after the fire broke out before 8pm.

Two further crews and a hydraulic platform were then rushed to the site around 15 minutes later.  Police and paramedics were also at the scene along with the water and electricity boards.

West Midlands Fire Service said that by 9pm, all persons were still "not yet accounted for" and advised people in the area to keep windows and doors closed.

A fire service spokesperson stated that the brigade had 6 fire engines and a hydraulic platform whilst dealing with the severe fire at the derelict pub.

Kingstanding Road was closed in both directions between Tresham Road and Hotspur Road while fire fighters worked to bring the blaze under control.

Fire crews said the incident had been brought to a close by around 9.30pm.  Fire crews stayed at the scene of the gutted Kingstanding pub overnight after fire fighters battled the blaze at the derelict venue.

It is not currently known if anyone was injured in the blaze.  Neighbours said trespassers regularly managed to force their way into the premises.

The fire was on the first floor and in the roof space.  The cause of the fire has not yet been established.

The forecourt of the former pub had recently been used as a mobile car wash site.  A fire service spokesman said: “As is customary, it’s being treated as persons’ reported until a search has been carried out as these properties can sometimes house homeless or vulnerable people.

“Safe, effective and assertive fire fighting has worked well to bring incident to a close.”
